The Mr. and Miss Special Henry County Pageant Program exist today because Kristi Mills and Melissa Dodgen, two special needs girls, had a dream of becoming a queen. Tina Mills (Kristi’s mom) and Connie Dodgen (Melissa’s mom) made a decision to make the girl’s dreams come true. Together with Lyndsey Mills, Miss Henry County 2003, they partnered with the Henry County Parks and Recreation Therapeutic Department and held the first pageant ever. That dream came true in 2003 for both Kristi and Melissa as they were both crowned queens.
The third Director, Joan Angelini , joined the Board of Directors when Lyndsey moved to Athens , Joan has been active with the pageant from the beginning.
Together, these three ladies work endlessly as full-time Volunteers to make this pageant possible and promote fairness and equality for people with disabilities. The money raised for the pageant for People First of Henry County allows the opportunity for our organization to enhance social skills and self esteem for these young people throughout the community.
Thanks Tina, Connie and Joan for all your hard work!
